Greta Gordon Rickoff was born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 24, 1927. After attending Miami University of Ohio and Western Reserve University she met her future husband Nathan and spent the next sixty seven years living in Pensacola.   Greta was an avid golfer for most of her life and she played a talented game of bridge.   She enjoyed her Pensacola Symphony Orchestra membership and was an active member of the Symphony Guild, always involved in planning the annual Magnolias and White Linen event.   Her generosity was an important part of the community and was personally paramount.   She was a long time member of Impact 100 as well as donating a chair to the Amos Center for Performing Arts. Her other memberships included the League of Women’s Voters, Tiger Bay Club, the Pensacola Museum of Art, Scenic Hills Ladies Golf Association, and numerous other organizations. Greta’s love of Judaism and the State of Israel carried over into her life-long memberships at B’Nai Israel Synagogue and Temple Beth El, where she served as President of Sisterhood and was continually active in ongoing projects.   Her contribution to the renovation of Temple Beth El was one of her proudest accomplishments. Greta was also a life-long member of Hadassah and Pensacola Jewish Federation.   Her devoted family included her four sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Faye, Michael and Jamie, Bruce and Olga, and Ricky and Michelle.   She enjoyed the love of her grandchildren Matthew (Lauren) Rickoff, Dana (Dylan) Oberhausen, Rochelle (Moshe) Wilensky, Abbie Rickoff, Jenna (Joseph) Beker, Ross (Lauren) Rickoff, Cary Rickoff, Parker Rickoff, Zachary Rickoff, and Neil Rickoff.   Greta has six adoring great granddaughters.   Other survivors include a sister Dolores Gelfand as well as many nieces and nephews. As everyone who knew Greta, she was the ultimate active woman, ready for any activity at a moment’s notice.   She was always dressed to the nines in the latest fashions.   Her social involvements in the city were numerable and along with those involvements nearly always came financial support.   She rarely missed a social or community event and was acquainted with almost all of Pensacola’s active participants, regardless of age or stature.   She had a loving relationship with her two caregivers Ahn and Jeanette who had truly become members of her family.   They saw to her every need with impeccable care and our family will be eternally grateful for their devotion. The funeral service will take place at Temple Beth El, 800 North Palafox Street, at 1 pm on Friday, July 28, 2017.   Interment will be at Beth El Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Temple Beth El or your favorite charity. WATERS & HIBBERT FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.

To all the Rickoffs...Scott & family, Michael & family, Bruce & family, Ricky & family~ My heart goes out to you in the loss of your mom. She was a gracious and loving woman. One time when my mama must've been under the weather, your mom brought her chicken soup. Mama said it was the BEST chicken soup! This was a random act of kindness... for a fellow neighbor and friend in the Pensacola community. That means so much in this day and age. I know she will be missed. Sending my love & prayers~ ~ Jane Noonan Akin, Carbondale, Illinois

My sympathies to Greta's beautiful family. I know your loss weighs heavy - and my thoughts are with you. I did not see Greta often but when I did, she was always so gracious and I enjoyed talking with her (and Nate) - especially about her days at Miami U. Her passing is a great sadness but I will remember her for her wonderful zest for life. ~ Val Freysinger, Cincinnati, Ohio Contact Me
