Mrs. Gladys M. Pettersen was born on June 3, 1915 and passed away September 1 st , 2017 at 102 years of age.  She was predeceased in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Beverly B. Pettersen.  She was lovingly known as “Mrs. P” or “Miss Gladys” by her many friends and loving neighbors for many years.  It can truly be said that she loved life and enjoyed it to the full. She is survived by one daughter, Beverly Ann (Tom) Holtz, one Grand-daughter, Kimberly Ann (Rob) Violette, two Great grand-daughters, Savanna and Abigail Violette, along with an extended family of many who truly loved her dearly, as she did in return. Her 102 years of life were marked by loyalty, love, devotion, and a self-sacrificing spirit that touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be genuinely missed by family and friends alike.  We can imitate her fine example of life by living each day to the full and giving thanks for every breath we take to the giver of life itself, our great God and Heavenly Father.   There will be no public service, but rather her life will be memorialized by personal and private family gatherings, which were so precious and dear to her in life. WATERS & HIBBERT FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. "P" or Ms. Gladys to our neighborhood, was an inspiration to all who waved to her on her porch, stopped for a chat, or a short visit that often turned into a long visit. Being her next door neighbor since 2003 brought me great joy and a dear friendship that I will always cherish. Every day I could look on her porch and give a holler, honk when driving by, a quick phone call, or a quick look to see her lights on. Ms. Gladys loved her family, enjoyed their many visits, and spoke of them often and very highly. Holidays, birthdays, special events, or "just thinking of her" moments gave me excuses to stop by. I could never give her a present without her returning one even unannounced. I forgot from time to time how elderly she was as she could cheer me up, give me wisdom about the past, and what to think about for the future. Whatever was going on she wanted to help resolve the issues around her. She was selfless regarding herself and seemed to always have empathy in our conversations. I will remember her humor, sweet laughter, and firm voice on important matters. She loved her house and endured graciously the many changes in her town, neighborhood, and losses in her life. She was an example to all, determined, and independent. My little grandson enjoyed going to visit Mrs. Pettersen as she welcomed him, sang songs, and played with him. He still looks at her porch and wants to go see her. I wish I could give one more hug to my friend at the door and thank her for being so good to me. I feel very blessed and honored to have had Ms. Gladys in my life and although things have changed now I make it a point to smile more when I glance over to check on her. Knowing Ms. Gladys is in heaven with many of her loved ones and being with her Lord and Savior brings the greatest joy to me. A wonderful life lived! Gladys was a great role model showing that we can live alone and care for one's self at age 100+. She and Pat became best friends when Pat invited Gladys to walk about 2 miles with her each morning. We were benefited greatly to have her living in our neighborhood. Tom and Pat Franklin Contact Me

Gladys was my mothers (Pat Franklin) walking buddy in Pensacola.Walking with the two of them was like a tour of the good times in Pensacola and down Menendez street. They made quite a pair dressed alike with their hats and sunglasses. We were blessed to have this delightful lady in our lives.
