Obituary

Doris Brady Stroud left this world on Friday morning, August 4, 2017. She was born in Uriah, Alabama on March 28, 1922, and she celebrated her 95th birthday this past spring. Doris began playing the violin when she was a young girl, and she was very involved in all the local activities in Daphne where she grew up. She has lived in Pensacola for the past 70 years and she loved raising her family here. Doris volunteered for many years in the same nursing home where she passed away. She also loved camping, gardening, working with her church family, and traveling around the world. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Edgar Brady, and her second husband Halen Stroud, as well as her son James Brady, her “adopted” son Jim Glisson, her parents, Josie and Luther Wilkinson and her two brothers Luther and Bill Wilkinson. She is survived by her son John (Yoshie) Brady, daughters Linda (Jim) Enterkin and Sharon Brady Kersey, step daughter Mary Lou Stroud and “adopted” daughter Janell (Evan) Totten, Grandchildren Kevin (Dettra) Kersey, Joshua (Amy) Kersey, Katie Enterkin, Adam Enterkin and Tracy (Joey) Johnson, as well as 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her service will be held at Waters and Hibbert Funeral Home on Saturday, August 12, 2017. Family and friends will be receiving guests beginning at 1 p.m., followed by the service at 2 p.m. Her grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers and Doris will be laid to rest next to her husband Edgar in the Myrtle Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at stjude.org .  Her "adopted" son, Jim Glisson, worked with St. Jude for many years before his death, and we know that a contribution to them would bring Doris and Jim both great joy. WATERS & HIBBERT FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.

Layna (Patrick) Gates,

Posted at 12:00am
I know I am one of many adopted "grandchildren ", but I loved this lady dearly. She loved me from the first time we met many years ago. I will never forget her willingness to stand up and testify about her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. If there was ever a testimony time at church she gladly popped up and said, "let the redeemed of the Lord say so". There is no doubt that she is sitting at the feet of her sweet Jesus even now. My life was blessed by her in so many ways. I'm thankful for the many times she allowed me to accompany her on the piano while she played so beautifully on the violin, or learning to sing alto next to her in choir, and allowing me to prepare her wedding cake when she married Mr. Stroud. "Grandma" I will miss you, but I will see you again one day. All my love and prayers to her family as I know they feel a great hole in their hearts as losing her is a great loss to us, but a great gain to Heaven. ~ Layna (Patrick) Gates, Lillian, Alabama Contact Me
