Obituary

1 Peter 5:10, "And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. Cheryl Lauren White passed away on January 8, 2018, due to complications from the COPD she battled for fifteen years. She was 61. Cheryl was with her son, Wesley Payne, and daughter, Katherine Grace Gavina, and died peacefully. A true believer in Jesus and the Gospel, Cheryl is currently in Heaven, annoyed at the fuss everyone is making over her. Cheryl was born on December 14, 1956 in the outskirts of Alamogordo, New Mexico, to John Louis Greene and Clara Mae Greene. She traveled more than most, living at different times in New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, north and south Florida, and West Germany. She held a variety of jobs during her life, but two stand out: she worked at a grief counseling call center, where her job was to talk to callers and help them through their losses with words and advice. She also was a waitress for more than 30 years; Cheryl's quick mind allowed her to take orders for tables and sections without a pen and pad, and her sarcastic wit earned her new friendships every day as she bantered with customers new and old. Cheryl's (unofficial) profession was as an online shopper. L. L. Bean, Zulily, and nuts.com can expect significant profit decreases with her passing. Whether through listening, serving, or giving, Cheryl loved nothing more than to do for others. Cheryl also loved cooking, baking, and candy. She was quick with a pie, quicker to offer a recipe, and quickest of all to hand out candy to the grand kids, and always seemed annoyed when we would not let the kids leave the visit with a five pound bag of gummy bears or an industrial size case of Oreo cookies. Sometimes when we she was shopping for her snacks, her eyes were bigger than her stomach – nothing was ever bigger than her heart, though. Cheryl is survived by many, to include her son Wesley and his wife Hailee, and her daughter Katie, and her husband Chris. Her father is still alive, as well as her siblings, but most importantly, she is survived by her six grandchildren: Nicholas, Sophia, Autumn, Cheyenne, Eliot, and Aubrey. More than any other, this loss is theirs. Cheryl was their staunchest defender against “unfair” parents, their biggest cheerleader for victories big and small, and each of the six was her best friend. A small memorial service will be conducted Friday, January 12, from 2 until 4 in the afternoon at Waters and Hibbert Funeral Home. Waters & Hibbert Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

I have many wonderful memories. Most of us talking about cooking and what I was cooking and how I could make certain meals better like my pot roast, one of her favs I made once I made it "her way" as in putting some coke a cola in it. But also happy that she shared a small love of dark chocolate. I am still saddened that we lost her to soon but heave gained a beautiful new angel and a thought warms my heart is that she is able to be pain free and still "worried" that her and my momma are swapping info on me. ~ Ladybugg
